The Department of Training and Workforce Development is currently preparing Skilling WA: A workforce development plan for Western Australia in conjunction with State Government agencies, industry and community stakeholders.
The Skilling WA plan is:
A response by the State of Western Australia to the increasing demand for skills and labour by the State’s industries, which recognises the impact the major resources and infrastructure projects have on the wider State labour market and is aimed at building, attracting and retaining a skilled workforce to meet the economic needs of the State.
This will guide workforce development policy and training delivery in line with the needs of the growing economy, with the goal to maximise the availability of skilled labour to meet the needs of industry, the community and the individual.
To stimulate discussion of the issues impacting on the State’s labour market, the Department has released five briefing papers for industry, community and public comment. In particular, the briefing papers are intended to generate thought on the policies, strategies and actions required to address the issues.
Consultations were held earlier this year with key stakeholders. Public comments are also invited by using the online form or by email to swp@dtwd.wa.gov.au.
