The State Priority Occupation List
The SPOL is produced each year by the Department in consultation with key stakeholders, including the State’s Industry Training Councils, to inform and guide workforce planning and development for Western Australia. The SPOL is a list of occupations that are considered a priority in WA, including those that are considered industry-critical. It includes those occupations where there is unmet demand, often referred to as a skills shortage, and where known non-market factors such as regulatory changes are having an impact on the workforce and/or industry. Occupations are rated according to their priority status.
The SPOL is important in the development of the WA State Training Plan, as it guides the funding of subsidised training programs across the State while also ensuring that this funding is prioritised towards occupations that require skilled workers. It also informs WA workforce development planning and the Western Australian Skilled Migration Occupation List.
