$10M state of the art training centre a step closer for Broome

Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery has today announced that the new $10 million Broome training centre is a step closer, with the design now finalised.

North Regional TAFE’s new Broome Hospitality and Student Services Centre will feature state of the art facilities, that will offer speciality training in hospitality, tourism, hair and beauty for the Kimberley region. Local firm Engawa Architects has finalised the design for the development of two new buildings at the Broome TAFE campus; one for hospitality and tourism and the second for hair and beauty training, which will be linked by an outdoor meeting place. The project also includes an extension to the administration building to provide additional space for student and corporate services. The redevelopment will provide a welcome boost to hospitality and tourism training in the Kimberley region, and facilitate industry-standard practice in hair and beauty. The major upgrades will add vitality to campus life for all students and visitors, and create jobs for local construction workers.

The new training centre for Broome was announced in July 2020 as part of the WA State Government's $5.5 billion WA Recovery Plan and largest TAFE capital works program in Western Australia's history, which will see a record $167.4 million invested in upgrades to essential infrastructure across Western Australia's five TAFE colleges and create more than 1,000 jobs.

Tenders for the construction of the new centre are now open. Construction is anticipated to start in July 2021 with estimated completion in July 2022.

“This major campus upgrade will support Broome and the wider Kimberley region’s vital hospitality and tourism industry by offering hands-on training in a world-class training facility.“ the Minister says. "We're committed to providing outstanding learning opportunities for students and generating a pipeline of local jobs to strengthen regional Western Australia’s economy.”.
