$5M makeover will reconnect Roebourne TAFE with community

Iredale Pedersen Hook Architects Pty Ltd has been appointed to design the major redevelopment of Roebourne District High School and upgrades to the adjacent Minurmarghali Mia (Roebourne)TAFE campus. Local business Hurley Architecture and Planning will be appointed to work as a consultant for the project.

The $5 million TAFE rebuild will see a new classroom block built, a general modernisation of campus amenities and the demolition of several 40-year-old demountable buildings. The Minurmarghali Mia campus plays a key role in connecting the local Aboriginal community to vocational education and training, and the architects have been briefed to design world-class facilities that are culturally appropriate. The Roebourne community will collaborate with the State Government on the planning of the new designs with the voices of students and parents reflected in every stage of the development. It is intended that the new designs will provide greater opportunities for all staff and students to understand and respect Aboriginal history, culture and language and create meaningful local jobs in the process. Construction is expected to create jobs for more than 150 workers.
