ChemCentre’s Open Day – Celebrating science

On, 26 October, from 10 am to 4 pm, ChemCentre is holding an open day to celebrate science and showcase the diversity of careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).

ChemCentre is a Western Australian Government agency that offers specialised chemical and forensic services to ensure a safe and prosperous community. It provides environmental chemistry services in the areas of occupational health and safety, air quality, water, soil, marine environments, and mining and petroleum chemistry, and support to government agencies and departments in chemical, biological and radiological incidents. ChemCentre also has forensic science services including clandestine laboratory remediation, forensic toxicology, illicit drug analysis and physical evidence, working closely with agencies such as the WA Police, WA Health, and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

All of these specialist areas will be on show for the open day, with tours of the forensic science and environmental chemistry labs where you can get hands-on with the experts. You can also find out how science plays an important part in police work, experiencing a day at work as a crime-solving chemist. Other activities include exploring the HAZMAT emergency response mobile laboratory, getting scientific insights into your backyard soil through chemical analysis, and speak to local science and chemistry experts about their work and careers.

Entry is free, and free parking is available. The open day is held at ChemCentre, in Bentley. For further information, please visit
