Department's street banner helps fly the flag for reconciliation

The Department of Training and Workforce Development has proudly sponsored a street banner in support of National Reconciliation Week, which takes place from 27 May to 3 June, 2018. The banner is part of a project led by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and is on display in Adelaide Terrace Perth from 25 May until 4 June.

The banner features the Department logo alongside this year’s reconciliation message, ‘Don’t keep history a mystery’ and the artwork ‘Wirrwul’ from WA Aboriginal artist Katie Ward.

Executive Director Service Delivery, Karen Ho, said sponsoring the banner was part of the Department’s commitment to creating an inclusive community through our Reconciliation Action Plan and an acknowledgement of our support for social harmony and reconciliation initiatives.

A national council, Reconciliation Australia, initiated National Reconciliation Week in 1996 to celebrate Indigenous history and culture in Australia and foster reconciliation discussion and activities.

The week is held between 27 May and 3 June of each year, with the dates holding special historical significance.
