Muresk Institute showcases modern agriculture to international guest

One of Australia’s top diplomats visited Northam’s Muresk Institute today as part of a program to promote agriculture in Western Australia to the Asian market.

Australia’s Consul-General in Ho Chi Minh City, Julienne Cowley, is in WA engaging first-hand with regional communities and businesses to learn and listen to local perspectives on trade and development policy, in conjunction with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Director General of the Department of Training and Workforce Development Anne Driscoll said the Muresk visit was an excellent opportunity to showcase the State’s premier skills hub for modern agriculture. “Muresk is at the forefront of WA’s agricultural scene, working closely with partners to bring cutting edge technology to regional Australia,” she said.

Today’s visit included a campus and farm tour with exposure to the ground breaking SmartFarm technology, in operation at Muresk since 2018. This technology has been used to increase Muresk’s productivity, environmental sustainability, safety and workflow and train and upskill Western Australians studying or working in agriculture.

Ms Driscoll said the Muresk Institute is the perfect setting to study short or long term agricultural courses, with a number of accommodation options and meal packages. “With WA's clean environment and first-rate agricultural industry we have a lot to offer the Asian market with innovative partnerships and research opportunities. Muresk Institute offers a wide range of nationally accredited courses as well as workshops and professional development opportunities. Upcoming short courses include the Livestock School, Precision Control Technology training and the Drone pilot licence. There are also a number of full time courses delivered in partnership with TAFEs and universities, including the Curtin University Associate Degree in Agribusiness which is a two year program and pathway into the full Curtin University Bachelor of Agribusiness, the South Regional TAFE Diploma of Agriculture and Central Regional TAFE’s Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.".
