TAFE upgrade benefits students and wider community

On 26 October Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan officially opened Central Regional TAFE's interactive student hub at the Geraldton campus, offering improved learning experiences for more than 500 students who access the facility each day. Equipped with a 24/7 computing lab, high speed Wi-Fi access, meeting spaces and an upgraded café, the hub is an asset to the greater Geraldton area and promotes engagement in campus life for students and a space for industry collaboration. The creation of the hub has provided an essential expansion to core library functions to support modern learning.

Smart architectural solutions have created a seamless link between the library and the café, two important student socialisation spaces, and the project has been extremely well received by staff and students alike.

Comments attributed to Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:"The modern facilities give students a top quality learning environment close to home. The new student hub will allow the college to adapt to the changing requirements of students and deliver the skills needed for the workforce. It is also an asset to the wider community and local industry, providing opportunities for public access and support specific to the local job market."

Comments attributed to Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan: "The hub is a timely addition that will meet the evolving requirements of students and industry. It will contribute towards Geraldton's vision as an education hub, supporting flexible training options and increasing the availability of a trained and skilled workforce in the Mid-West. The hub will enable regional residents to capitalise on job prospects, making a positive contribution to the regional economy."
